Tottenham Grabs Chelsea's Goalkeeper

Chelsea's London rival, Tottenham, has clinched Chelsea's 2nd choice goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini for around £1,000,000.

The 35 year old Italian keeper had only played 25 times in the last 5 seasons for Chelsea. He is the second Chelsea player to move in the transfer window this season after left-back defender Wayne Bridge.

Cudicini is expected to compete with Tottenham's 1st choice keeper & Brazilian international Heurelho Gomes.

Another player that might be out too is French international, Florent Malouda. Malouda is being linked to Spanish club Villarreal who are preparing a £9m bid.

Chelsea 2 - Stoke 1

Chelsea scored the 2 goals towards the knick of referee's final whistle. I'm sure Chelsea fans were at the edges of there seats.

The first half had Chelsea dominating all through but lacked the wit to convert possessions. First it was Kalou that missed a glaring chance in front of goal. Then it was an unmarked Ballack who failed to knock in a begging goal.

Chelsea was later punished in the 60th minute when Stoke's Delap chipped the ball over Peter Cech. It was coincidentally thier first attempt on goal and they just used the chance wisely.

Stoke seemed to have gotten away with the game when Scolari was rewarded with a goal by a substitute he introduced (Belletti). The late equaliser by Belletti inspired Chelsea and just some seconds to full time whistle, Frank Lampard secured the win. Frank Lampard's goal was a very crucial as it helped to earn 3 points and also rekindle our home run.

Southend 1 - Chelsea 4

Chelsea earns a 4th round FA Cup tie against Ipswich after beaten Southend 4 goals to 1.

It was Southend that gained the lead in the 16th minute through yet another Chelsea's set piece error. Just seconds into the half break Chelsea levelled with a drive by Germany's Michael Ballack.
Kalou placed a 16 yards goal to give Chelsea the lead in the 60th minute. The English Premier League's top scorer Nicolas Anelka then finished a goal he constructed. And it was Lampard that sealed it completely at the 91st minute.

Has Chelsea claimed their form back? With this win against a resilient Southend, Chelsea might be inspired to attain victories in susequent matches. Chelsea next match is at home against Stoke in the weekend. A win will only keep Chelsea's title hopes alive as it slips to 3rd place after a Manchester United's win against Wigan.
Manchester United is now second with just 2 points behind Liverpool and with a game in hand.

Manchester United 3 - Chelsea 0

In the beginning, just before kickoff, my heart was pumping rapidly. Why? Because i was running through my mind these questions.....will Chelsea win, will Chelsea draw, or will Chelsea lose? Well i got the answer after a woeful performance by Chelsea. I think i'm beginning to lose some confidence in this Chelsea team this season. 3 - 0 was a disgraceful defeat. Wasn't it?

Jose Mourinho was present to watch the match & i thought this would kind of inspire Chelsea players. But not anyway, they just lacked the wit to attain victory. Man Utd's keeper had nothing, i mean nothing to do throughout the game. No attack threats even with Drogba's presence. We just pocketed possessions.

The 1st half was pretty good with Chelsea at a time enjoying a 76% possession against Man Utd's 24%. We had possessions but could not produce goals from them.....Wasteful possessions. We got hit by the first blow when Man Utd's defender, Vidic, scored with just some seconds to half time. Really our defence has been questionable this season when it comes to set pieces. This is a shadow of what it used to be with former coach Mourinho.

The second goal could have been avoided if Ashley Cole had sharply cleared the incoming cross from Evra. From then Chelsea lost motivation to equalise. We lost the fighting spirit completely after the 2nd goal. Chelsea players then started moving the ball slowly and lazily until another another goal was conceded. The 3rd goal especially was untypical of a Chelsea's defence manning Captain Terry & Carvalho.

Our set pieces used to be deadly but ironically we are having problems with tackling set pieces against us. Remember the 2 goals we conceded against Fulham were set pieces. The 1st & 3rd goals by Man Utd were set pieces. That needs to be worked on. We rather used to be the one that was dangerous with set pieces.

Chelsea dream of reclaiming the Premier League Title is fading off gradually. With Man Utd, Arsenal and Aston Villa being in winning ways recently.

I wonder why John Terry was applauding after the game (after a loss?)

Pairing Drogba, Anelka needs Malouda?

Scolari admits that patnering Drogba and Anelka needs a natural left winger like Malouda. Malouda, who is the only Chelsea player that fits into this position has not been in his best form since signing for Chelsea. He is currently injured.

Earlier Scolari had been reported to have interest in signing AC Milan's Brazilian International Cincinho. Though Chelsea is possessed with some players who can fill in the position but Big Phil just wants a born left footer.

A player like Solomon Kalou had been used in this position severally and seems okay. Also Joe Cole has been used in this position in the England team and did well. In Arsenal, Thiery Henry (a right footer) was converted from the left wing to a center forward. Manchester United's Christiano Ronaldo had been used often in this wing and posed threats to oppositions.

I think it is not mandatory to have a born left winger to fill in before Drogba and Anelka is paired. If we get one, fine but without one, it shouldn't be a problem. We can adopt a right footer.

Chelsea 1 - Southend 1

Not again, Chelsea starts New Year with a draw? With Southend (a League 1 club) at that? I just wonder when we'll start winning again

A 90th minute goal from Peter Clarke stopped Chelsea from claiming a win. Chelsea will have to go away to play Southend United. This is really disappointing isn't it?

Ironically, Chelsea's home form have been questionable & away form almost perfect. But will Chelsea continue an unimpressive home run? What really is the problem. The respect for home games seems diminishing. It was Burnley now its Southend?

Chelsea's got a match against Manchester United next week. Are we winning? I hope so as it would console disappointed Chelsea fans. It will really be a big win because we have lost to Arsenal and Liverpool already this season.

Anyway lets keep the blue flag flying!

Happy New Year; Happy New Chelsea!

I wish you all a Happy New Year. This year is full of great football matches. The UEFA champions league, English premier league, FA cup, Carling cup (Chelsea's out), UEFA cup and so on.

With Chelsea still placed in the 2nd position of the EPL (English Premier League) table, this new year might just be a positive resolution year for us. We will be playing Manchester United on the 11th of this month (its going to be a classic at Old Trafford). Chelsea will also be facing Juventus in the The UEFA champions league and the match would be a cracker.

We cannot but hope for some great Chelsea display & wins this year. The January transfer window is open this month. Lets keep our fingers crossed and see whom Chelsea will buy.

Once again welcome to this New Year.
